Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos major)

The Great Spotted Woodpecker spends most of it's time clinging to the trunk and branches or large mature trees found in forests and large parks. The male has a distinctive red patch on the back of it's head. It feeds on insects, seeds and nuts and will visit peanut bird feeders. Further information on the Great Spotted Woodpecker can be found at the RSPB Great Spotter Woodpecker page.
